Yup.
We are talking about this again. Made a whole video about it, as well
Concord was released in August 23, 2024, and as of me typing this, the servers for it are being shutdown. I know I made a post last year around this time about how Live Service gaming was proving to be unsustainable. Here is the bellwether example of this. Beyond proving that it is entirely possible to burn away well north of $200 Million in funding and publishing a video game clearly no one wanted to play, what are publishing arms gaining by still tackling into the extremely crowded and (to steal a term from Jeff Gerstman) calcified live service, hero shooter, gaming market? The same thing, the hopes of striking it big and being the next Overwatch or Fortnite. This is not to say some games that are live service models will not work (hello, HellDivers II), but these exceptions and certainly not the rule.
Keep unionizing, game devs. Keep getting a seat at the decision table. Keep asking for more sustainable game models.
