Let it never be said I do not support the games industry....
I own the Megaman Legacy collection for my 3DS and Switch. I bought it at first for my 3DS while on a business trip more than two years. I never played many classic Megaman games, so I thought this was a needed update to my head space for game design dissection. One hour in and after embarrassingly struggling through Cutman's stage, I regretted my $30 purchase and had not touched it ever since. I decided to re purchase the game today for Switch and to force myself to complete at least all of the Megaman games on it.
I finally, this afternoon, completed Megaman 1 and here are my scattered thoughts on it:
-Thank all that is holy and just for the "Rewind" button in the Legacy collection. The physics for the title and controller character of Megaman has a slight movement to his landing and his every movement action. Precise landing is an exercise in frustration and constant landing adjustments. The Rewind button is just a godsend to save time.
-I now understand why everyone hates the Yellow Devil. The timing jumps required to dodge his attacks along with his very punishing damage output is, again, just frustrating. I get games made before I was born were made difficult because they were relatively short, but this is nonsense. Again, the Rewind button was used liberally.
-The "point" drops are worthless and frequent.
-I am convinced you cannot dodge Fireman's attacks.
-In what reality is Elecman's attacks doing 1/3 health per hit fair? Again, I'm convinced you can't dodge them. I may look up a "buster only hit-less run" of this game just to see if it's possible.
-The large gauntlet that is all of the Wiley Stages? It's a "fair" challenge, but obnoxiously long.
After it was all said and done, I can "see" why people enjoy and even love this game. I do not. It has not aged well, it does not play great, and I hear its sequel one ups it in every way. I will report my findings once I get them.
