I know the maintenance of this website is purely as a blog of sorts, but it is also vanity. I mean, SOMEONE has to claim "stanhazlip.com", and dammit if it was not going to be me. So, last update was July 2019 and I was playing Megaman 10? Good time to update what was going on in my life in the time, both personally and professionally:
- In August 2019, I bought a house near Austin, TX. I say "near" because the actual town was about a thirty-five mile drive to Austin proper. For those living in Texas, that probably does not sound too bad for the sake of owning a house (housing in Austin is now just about as expensive as the some part of San Francisco), and in all reality it was not the end of the world, but there were serious underlying issues of just WHY I bought that house. You see, at my previous employer I was all but forced into a promotion because of...what could only be considered as very poor leadership decisions over the course of a year. While forced into this position, I bought a house to basically have some sense of control (took me a couple of months to realize this). After about half a year in this position, I moved on from the long, six year career I had at Wargaming. Maybe one day I will be back if they will have me, but the stress, loss of control, and sheer mountain of poorly made decisions I was being forced to action upon made me realize that, at the time, this was no longer the correct fit for me. I hope the World of Warships team continues to find great success.
- In January of 2020, I accepted a position at Deep Silver Volition. I sold my house and moved to Illinois with hope and excitement for a new project. I got to see the the vertical slice of a new Saints Row game and was excited to help it along. I am even featured in the marketing material for it, both in the Oct 2021 Game Informer article and the Welcome to Santo Ileso Trailer. Well, here are are in late October of 2021, and I have put in my notice that I will be leaving Volition in November. Almost two years later, and it would seem maybe an explanation is in order of why I am not seeing this game to release? I feel a conversation like that would be better off to express in an academic sense and definitely not while the game is in active development, so maybe I will update this in 2022 or so. I wish Volition nothing but success in the near and far future. Maybe they too will accept me back one day, as I am leaving on good terms
- Other major life updates include: I am Engaged! We bought a house together! I am writing a book and have an editor on standby (I should be working on it instead or writing this, but here we are). I have a new position lined up with a brand new company. More details of that one day.
